HORN AND BOTTLE ANNOINTING

WHICH ANOINTING DO YOU OPERATE UNDER
Speaker: Pastor Benson Bennyhinn
Sunday 10th January 2010
There are two kinds of anointing. The bottle anointing and the horn anointing. 1 Samuel 8:4. Then all the responsible men of Israel got together and went to Samuel at Ramah,
1Sa 8:5  And said to him, See now, you are old, and your sons do not go in your ways: give us a king now to be our judge, so that we may be like the other nations.
1Sa 8:6  But Samuel was not pleased when they said to him, Give us a king to be our judge. And Samuel made prayer to the Lord.
1Sa 8:7  And the Lord said to Samuel, Give ear to the voice of the people and what they say to you: they have not been turned away from you, but they have been turned away from me, not desiring me to be king over them.
1Sa 8:8  As they have done from the first, from the day when I took them out of Egypt till this day, turning away from me and worshipping other gods, so now they are acting in the same way to you.
1Sa 8:9  Give ear now to their voice: but make a serious protest to them, and give them a picture of the sort of king who will be their ruler.
1Sa 8:10  And Samuel said all these words of the Lord to the people who were desiring a king.
1Sa 8:11  And he said, This is the sort of king who will be your ruler: he will take your sons and make them his servants, his horsemen, and drivers of his war-carriages, and they will go running before his war-carriages;

Psalm 37:4 God granted the Israelites the desires of their hearts.

If the anointing you have is not of God, then you would not walk in the ways of God. God spoke to Samuel and said
The bottle anointing takes you very fast to the royalty and thereafter, because it was not from God, it is very easy to fall. Normally this kind of anointing comes very fast and the fall is very fast. This kind of anointing also lets you do the will of men. You listen to men and do their will for they are the ones who anointed you.

1 Samuel 9:3-6 1Sa 9:3 Now the asses of Saul's father Kish had gone wandering away. And Kish said to his son Saul, Take one of the servants with you, and get up and go in search of the asses.
1Sa 9:4 So they went through the hill-country of Ephraim and through the land of Shalishah, but they saw no sign of them: then they went through the land of Shaalim, but they were not there: and they went through the land of the Benjamites, but they did not come across them.
1Sa 9:5  And when they had come to the land of Zuph, Saul said to the servant who was with him, Come, let us go back, or my father may give up caring about the asses and be troubled about us.
1Sa 9:6  But the servant said to him, See now, in this town there is a man of God, who is highly honoured, and everything he says comes true: let us go there now; it may be that he will give us directions about our journey.

Saul paid no price for the kind of anointing He received. He was in the busyness of looking for his fathers lost donkeys.  But in the process he met the man of God Samuel who told him that he was the king of the land according  to the desire of the people.

Vs 11-12 1Sa 9:11  And when they were on the way up to the town, they saw some young girls going out to get water and said to them, Is the seer here?
1Sa 9:12 And they said, He is; in fact he is before you: go quickly now, for he has come into the town today, for the people are making an offering in the high place today:
Saul in the process of being made king over Israel, he had not gone to seek the will of God. Vs 16 1Sa 9:16 Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin, and on him you are to put the holy oil, making him ruler over my people Israel, and he will make my people safe from the hands of the Philistines: for I have seen the sorrow of my people, whose cry has come up to me.

This was a response to the Israelites’ cry that they wanted to be like other nations. It therefore was the will of the Israelites and not the will of God.

If the anointing does not emanate from God, you will misbehave. And will lead you to straying. After Saul being King over Israel, he never regarded God and he lead and did according to his will or the demands of people. This was because the anointing was not from God.

When he was given the report of him being rejected by God, he turned to Samuel and tore his garment and Samuel spoke to him saying that the same way you have tore my garment so will your kingdom be torn.

Lets look at the second anointing – the horn anointing.
Ref.1Samuel 13:8-11
1 Samuel 10:1
There are two people anointed by the same man while one is anointed with the bottle and the other is anointed with the oil from the horn.
It surprised other people that Saul was prophesying. This implied that there was  a procedure to become a prophet.

What will not have the pain for what you have not paid a price for. 1 Samuel 16:12 1Sa 16:12  So he sent and made him come in. Now he had red hair and beautiful eyes and pleasing looks. And the Lord said, Come, put the oil on him, for this is he.
1Sa 16:13  Then Samuel took the bottle of oil, and put the oil on him there among his brothers: and from that day the spirit of the Lord came on David with power. So Samuel went back to Ramah.

The one that was chosen by people; Saul was anointed with the bottle.. but the one that God Himself chose; David was anointed from the horn. The bottle anointing will take you from your home to the royalty while the horn anointing will take you from home to the wilderness. The horn itself, is not a cheap thing to find. The horn must have at one  particular time been on the animal. The animal must have died, the horn thrown away, rotten and even smelled at one particular time. When this is picked it was something that once was useless. For you to be  in possession of a horn, there must be blood shedding   or there must be death.
The anointing that David received; horn anointing, took him to the wildersness that David may himself die so that when he will be in kingship, he nwould not see himself but will glorify God. When one day, the tabernacle was brought, David danced until his wife mocked him but he responded saying that ‘I am dancing for God who has brought me this far.

You may be going through a hard situation and it seems like god had gone on a safari in your life. But may speak to you today, it may be the horn anointing that is operating in your life. You might be seeing a lot of wilderness, no school fee, rent, what is always happening to you seems like you are forgotten of God. May I speak too you today, you are in the wilderness and when the wilderness is over, you will be lifted and be taken to royalty. Once lifted, no situation will withstand you. Go for the horn anointing.

The characteristics of horn anointing

4. Makes you strong and courageous. Even though you may be going through challenges, you will be courageous.
5. When the bottle anointing was running away from the battle, the horn anointing was asking “what shall be done to the man who shall fell this uncircumcised philistine.
6. Will take you from wilderness to royalty. 1 Samuel 18:1-2
7. makes you humble always and ready for repentance
